Welcome Friend,
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves; we are John and Jane Huizinga from Hamilton, Ontario in beautiful Canada. The Lord has given us four wonderful sons and a delightful daughter in law. They are Bart, Paul and Julie, Calvin and Dan. We are members of Rehoboth United Reformed Church and very much enjoy worshipping our Lord within this congregation.
Approximately two and a half years ago we felt God laying his will upon our hearts to go to the Dominican Republic to work, serve and share the good news of the gospel to the many poor people living there. Many of have nothing outside of the tin shack which they call home and nearly every one of them suffer from lack of food, unemployment, very little or no education, illness, few clothes and most of all no Saviour. To add to this, many of them are still steeped in the occult of voodoo which only adds to their misery and suffering.
On August 14, 2007 we plan to be in the Dominican Republic working with the Samaritan Foundation. The Samaritan Foundation works with these poor and destitute people by supplying them with a small home, a local church, the opportunity of medical and educational assistance for all ages but most of all, an opportunity to see the Christian faith in action. The adage “No one cares how much you know; until they know how much you care” is certainly applicable here. The apostle James commands us with the following verses from James 2:14-17 (NIV),
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily bread. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
By beginning to address some of their daily needs, offering hope for the future, all along side with sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and his love for them, many are seeing and embracing the same Lord and Saviour that you and I love and serve.
While we leave our family and friends behind, we know that God will continue to accompany us in the future as he has done faithfully in the past. Together we look forward to this new venture in our lives and would appreciate it greatly if you would partner with us in showing the Love Of Christ to those in desperate need. With your help we can bring the “Light Of The Son” into their dark lives.
To our Lords praise,
John and Jane Huizinga
